Resilience 101

Through a partnership with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia, CERN is working to create a Resilience 101 course for elected officials in Georgia. This course will help participants understand the components of community resilience, be better able to assess their community risks, and prioritize, plan for, and implement necessary projects and policies to create and enhance community resilience.

Learning objectives for this curriculum include:

  • Defining resilience and its importance to communities and managing land.
  • Discussing the difference between shocks and stressors.
  • Increasing resilience by strengthening the triple bottom line.
  • Building partnerships.
  • Discussing how you assess and plan for resilience, focusing on planning- and land use-related strategies.
  • Understanding a bit about resilience in the coastal Georgia context.
